Some days, folks, its gonna have to be short, with less study and simple reading. Today is a day like that.
Okay, so Genesis 4 seems to really concern me because the times make no sense. My author's interpretation seems to be that either the years were exaggerated or were actually days in a year. I guess 5:3 lends credence to our parents saying they hope we experience what they did with our own children. I do notice 5:22 wherein the difference should be noted of "walking with God" versus merely"living."
Genesis 6 made me think of Krista's comments on when God decided that was it. And I think this is exactly what Genesis 6 says. Do you wonder why the serpent was brought on board Noah's ark? The end seems to say that not only "you are what you reap, but what you reap is stuck with you."
Peter 3 also speaks to some of your comments, Krista. It tells us in 3:8 time is relative to the watcher. God waits patiently, while we are impatient and see 3:10 indicates that these things are sometimes figurative or distorted because they are trying to describe the indescribable. And heed the warning of 3:11 that this transitory existence and indescribable time should be the reason that we want to live lives of holiness now.
Well, I am intrigued and ready to read more tomorrow. Sorry so short today -- promise more length and analysis tomorrow!
Yes! Peter resolves a lot of issues for me. I think that people should reflect on this more often. It allows for a multitude of imaginations and translations. From my relationship with God that is how it should be. I guess I get incredibly frustrated with people waving the Bible around and saying this is what it says,THE END. God gave us the Bible and a mind. A person that says that both aren't necessary to understand are wrong.
ReplyDeleteI guess it would be interesting to write down and do all the math in Genesis. I'll make a note for a rainy day project. Maybe something to do with Cameron when she is ready to add big numbers.
I still don't understand how an all knowing God could regret what He did. It doesn't add up. If he knows, then he knows.
PS 1-I do believe that I feel the most grace in life when I am at peace. I think that is the best gift God gave to us.
PS 93-Sounds to beseeching and sycophantic. Almost like bargaining with God.
I am a little bit of head of you celebratory sister :)
ReplyDeleteThe Noah story. Nothing adds up. First there are two of each then there are seven of each. He needs food for 40 days but they are on the boat longer etc. Also, if God told them when they could leave the ark why did Noah have to send the bird out? Good story but it seems more like this was added to explain something else than as documentation.
On shedding the blood of man...I have heard people use this to support the death penalty. It means to me that if you kill, you are also killing yourself and God.
Did you get that the Bow is a rainbow? Interesting...I never understood that before. That is a glorious symbol of God.
Hmmm....a lot of people use Noah's Descendants as evidence of God's thoughts on homosexuality. What about on drinking fathers who can't act better? The punishment does not fit the crime or something is missing.
Krista, on the 2 and 7 -- there were two of the "unclean" animals and 7 of the "clean" animals. The unclean were only to reproduce, the clean were to reproduce and to be offered as a sacrifice.
ReplyDeleteI think that the bird being sent out is Noah being a little impatient and unsure. As we see him getting drunk and exposing himself, I think we are meant to understand that even the best of us question ourselves and our faith, but if we are patient, God will tell us where to go and what to do.
