Genesis 25: I love this idea that the twins struggled already in her womb. Kids will fight - no matter where. I also enjoy that the law of man gave everything to the older child, but God let the boys believe that their oral agreement set the paths in stone.
Genesis 26: I really think this is best summarized as "Like Father, like Son." Isaac indicates Rebekah is his sister to who? Abimelech. Poor Abimilech -he is not trying to do wrong, but both Abraham and Isaac offer their wives up as sisters. Geesh!
Galatians 3: You go Paul! This sounds like a football coach cheering his team to victory! Did you catch that, "God's Blessing has never been earned, but always freely given." Do you see that also, "Unity in Christ transcends ethic, social, and sexual distinctions." I need help here! I really do. So what's the what with the difference between Anglican and Episcopal. I need to call on authorities here --- anyone.?
I don't know where this leaves us. It leaves us looking for something far
Sounds like a fun evening. I will have to hear about it.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the Sister thing. There must be something there we are not seeing. Other than that it just makes Abraham and Isaac look like chickens.
I LOVED Galatians. It is your faith not the law. Follow your heart in faith. Religion (the law) is important, but faith is the key to our relationship with God and well...everything. I think this is the lesson that says the focus is here not there. There is just to help you bridge the gaps in your faith.
I was still thinking about Galatians today. I want to expand on my interpretation some more. I really think that God is in our hearts and is there always guiding us. Sometimes, we want to suppress what is in our hearts and do the practical thing or the easy thing. In being true to ourself we are being true to God. The Bible and Jesus exist to help us attain that understanding. Once we have that, the knowledge lies with us. We can't go back and repeal our faith to accomodate convenience in our lives. Accordingly, the answers to our life can't be looked up in the book. I know this flies in the face of your profession. Although, with all your practice surely you realize that the books can tell you lots but ultimately you have to go with your gut. (Yes, test passer:) Make sense?
ReplyDeleteNot to say our Bible study is not needed and that your mission isn't necessary. Sometimes deliberate thought is required to understand what is in our hearts and things are revealed to us slowly for a reason. Only in retrospect can we understand what that it is. Perhaps there are other mysteries in life that we need to ponder.
